Nutter Fort received its name from a family by the name of Nutter.
The Nutters were of Scotch-English descent. Coming to America at an early date, Thomas Nutter first settled in Sussex County, Delaware, where his oldest son, Christopher was born. They moved to Augusta County Virginia where the family remained until 1769. At that time they moved to Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and in March 1772 the Nutter brothers, Thomas, Matthew and Christopher came to Harrison County where they built and defended the now famous Nutter's Fort.
Special Meeting
A special Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 6:30PM to discuss a situation on Alexander Avenue.
Holiday closing/garbage changes
Town Hall will be closed on Monday, September 6,2010 in observance of Labor Day. Garbage service will be collected one day late, except for Friday, which will be collected on schedule.

Customers will notice a new payment box has been installed in the rear of Town Hall. We hope this new location will be more convenient for our customers.

We would like to take a moment of your time to familiarize you with our town. We were incorporated in 1923 and our present population is approximately 2000. The town is fortunate to have a city library located on Buckhannon Pike in front of the Nutter Fort Elementary School.

Town Hall office hours are 8:30a.m. to 4:00p.m. Monday thru Friday.The citizens of Nutter Fort are proud to also have a highly modern volunteer fire department and police department. Both departments enforce 24-hour protection to the residents
