The Code Enforcement Officer's responsibilities include the administration and enforcement of the State of West Virginia Building Codes and its referenced standards, along with the enforcement of the Town of Nutter Fort Building Codes.

The Town of Nutter Fort has adopted the State of West Virginia Building Code.  

Major Enforcement Responsibilities

  • New commercial and residential construction (plan reviews and inspections)
  • Modifications, renovations, and repairs to existing buildings
  • Residential and commercial demolition - including asbestos surveys and reports
  • Electrical service inspections
  • Complaints and investigations
  • Certificates of Use & Occupancy

The Nutter Fort Police Department is a full-time, 24/7 Police Department to handle any problems that may arise. The Police Department assists Nutter Fort Elementary School, the largest elementary school in the state, in different aspects including school crossings.  The Nutter Fort Police Department works with the Governor's Highway safety Program on Highway Safety issues such as Drinking and Driving, Click-it or Ticket, and School Zone Speeding. They also regulate and control the traffic on WV Route 20, which is the second most highly traveled road in Harrison County. The Police Department has won awards for its work on traffic safety.

This Police Department actively seeks out drugs in our community with the assistance of the Harrison County Street Crimes Unit and the Harrison County Drug Task Force.

 The Town of Nutter Fort Fire Department was chartered on August 25, 1945 by local men of the community.  The Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department is to this day, one of the strongest fire departments in Harrison County.

Operating on a staff of over 35 men and women, the Department handles in excess of 500 calls each year from EMS and automobile accidents to fires and other various calls.

The Department goes above and beyond its duties for the residents of Nutter Fort.  The Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department routinely responds to calls in other communities wherever help is needed.
